Judge: Ty Spencer Vossler
Ty Spencer Vossler, MFAis the Xman (ex-farmer, ex-truck driver, ex-powerlifter, ex-cop, expatriate). He lives in Oaxaca, Mexico, with his BMW (beautiful Mexican wife) and precocious eight-year-old daughter. He taught English for twenty-three years, and now works as a full-time writer. His rich life (ex)periences have shaped his various works into a mirror of American and Mexican society. His short stories, essays, and poetry have won critical acclaim worldwide. You can check him out at tyvossler.com.

Ty Vossler was born and raised on a small farm in the central San Joaquin Valley in California. His early education at a Mexican labor-camp school was the keystone to his interest in other cultures (particularly Mexican). There, he began to learn about diversity, and magic/realism firsthand.

Vossler is currently submitting three new novels for publishing, putting together two collections of short stories, singing his original music, giving seminars, creative writing workshops, and finding time to partake of mezcal with friends once in a while.

About the contest, Ty says:

“In my opinion, there are two kinds of writers—those who write because they can, and those who write because they must. I want to see smart, original writing that has been leeched from your soul. I am looking forward to reading your work.”

Contest Rules:

Only one entry per author. No simultaneous submissions.

Send your entry pasted into the body of an email and also as a .doc attachment (in the same email) to brilliantflashfiction@gmail.com. There are no specific font or formatting requirements. Authors retain all rights to submitted work. Deadline is June 15, 2016 midnight in Dublin, Ireland.

No poetry, no essays, no fan fiction, please.

All entries must be original and unpublished elsewhere. This means submissions that have been accepted for publication anywhere else, including blogs, personal web pages, etc., are not eligible. Entries of more than 750 words or entries found to be published anywhere else will be immediately disqualified.

All winning entries (including shortlisted stories) will be published in the June issue of Brilliant Flash Fiction.
