KJ Hannah Greenberg’s whimsical writing buds in pastures where gelatinous wildebeests roam and beneath the soil where fey hedgehogs play. She’s been nominated four times for the Pushcart Prize in Literature, and once for The Best of the Net. What’s more, Hannah’s the author of over two dozen books, including several collections of flash and short fiction: Friends and Rabid Hedgehogs (Bards & Sages Publishing, 2016), Cryptids (Bards & Sages Publishing, 2015), The Immediacy of Emotional Kerfuffles, 2nd ed. (Bards and Sages Publishing, 2015), and Don’t Pet the Sweaty Things, 2nd ed. (Bards and Sages Publishing, 2014). Look for the fifth volume of her collected brief fiction, Can I Be Rare, Too? (Bards & Sages Publishing, 2017) this March.

Hannah’s Hints for Writers:

* Flash fiction ought never to be static.
* Populate your stories with enough characters to get the job done, but not so many as to “crowd the hallway.”
* Action verbs are great. Needlessly complex words are burdensome.

Contest Rules:

One entry per author.

Send your entry pasted into the body of an email and also as a .doc attachment (in the same email) to brilliantflashfiction@gmail.com. There are no specific font or formatting requirements. Authors retain all rights to submitted work. Deadline is June 15, 2017, midnight in Dublin, Ireland.

Fiction only, please! No poetry, essays, non-fiction or memoir. Stories unrelated to the theme “the dubash” will be disqualified.

All entries must be original and unpublished. This means submissions that have been accepted for publication anywhere else, including blogs, radio broadcast, personal web pages, etc., are not eligible. Entries of more than 500 words or entries found to be published anywhere else will be immediately disqualified.

All winning entries (including shortlisted stories) will be published on our website.
